ABOUT YADELIS AVILA

Yadelis Avila is a screenwriter and director who graduated from Pratt Institute with her BFA degree in Film.

 

Yadelis' passion for film came from falling in love with the characters and wondering how to create such wonderful characters she had seen on tv. She wanted to become a filmmaker to create tv shows/films to be a source of representation of black/brown people who felt that they were negatively represented in media.

 

Her work mainly gravitates towards narrative storytelling. Many themes that are explored through her work are: coming of age stories, romance, immigration, first-generation trauma, racism/colorism in Black/Latino communities, and religion.

 

Yadelis currently resides in New York City with her dog, Mickey, where she is currently working on her new tv show pilot, The Menaces.
